Il dipinto offerto nel lotto, nella collezione privata di provenienza, recava un'attribuzione tradizionale a Pompeo Batoni (Lucca 1708 - Roma 1787); sembra, invece, ascrivibile ad un eclettico pittore di area emiliana, attivo tra la fine del Seicento e l'inizio del Settecento - per i forti debiti con gli stilemi di Correggio, che permeano l'opera di infinita grazia e dolcezza - non esente, tuttavia, dalla raffinata compostezza del classicismo romano.
