Il dipinto è corredato da una perizia in copia di Ferdinando Bologna, datata 12 novembre 1977, che lo attribuisce a Riccardo Quartararo (Sciacca 1443 - Palermo 1506).

L'opera faceva parte di un polittico, di cui altri due frammenti, raffiguranti Santa Monica e San Giacomo Maggiore, sono passati in asta Finarte, Roma 16 ottobre 2007, lotto 503.
