Prima edizione che contiene l'importante ed accurata revisione del Cenni. L'opera, complementare agli Annali d'Italia, fu pubblicata in latino nel 1738. Il Muratori si diede a tradurla e ad ampliarla, ma morì prima di completare il suo lavoro, sicché Pietro Gherardi s'incaricò di tradurre le ultime due delle 65 dissertazioni e il nipote Gio. Francesco Muratori provvide a curarne l'edizione, che vide la luce per la prima volta nel 1751.
