Edizione originale dei Promenades di Stendhal, completa dell'errata corrige e della cartina raffigurante le vestigia di Roma antica in fine al volume II, le antiporte sono incise da François Louis Couché su disegni di Charles Civeton. Stendhal (pseudonimo di Henri-Marie Beyle, Grenoble, 1783 - Parigi, 1842), noto soprattutto per i romanzi Il rosso e il nero e La Certosa di Parma, viaggiò a lungo in Italia, dedicandole piu di un'opera, tra cui Rome, Naples et Florence, en 1817.
