Pignotti was a very versatile Tuscan writer: he composed poems in blank verse of pre-romantic taste (Shakespeare's Tomb of 1779 and The Shadow of Popeof 1781; burlesque poems (La treccia donata of 1808, inspired by Alexander Pope's Ricciolo abducted); a History of Tuscany in nine volumes, published posthumously in the two-year period 1813-1814; eulogy poems; a popular essay on a medical topic (Medical instructions for the country people. He was also the author of fables, some original, others taken from the heritage of classic fables, especially from Aesop.
