The painting is related to the altarpiece depicting the same subject, made by Solimena and now preserved in the Church of Monteoliveto in Naples.Given the high quality of execution, it is not possible to exclude the direct intervention of the master himself; the painting was probably executed as a small model or "souvenir" of the altarpiece.
